Becoming an activist

UNISON follows a set of rules, created by its members at National Conference.  Within these rules, there are a number of posts created within the union and in each branch.  The branch also creates posts where it sees there will be a benefit.  Although there is an expectation that you will commit some of your time to your role, your employer is required by law to give you reasonable paid time off for certain trade union duties.  Enfield UNISON is made up of the following roles:

  • Workplace Stewards & Reps
  • Equalities Officers:
    • for Women Members
    • for Black Members
    • for LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans) Members
    • for Disabled Members
  • Welfare Officer
  • Education Officer
  • Sports & Social Officer
  • International Officer
  • Youth Officer
  • Labour Link Officer (Requires membership of Labour party)
  • Treasurer
  • Auditors
  • Pension fund
  • Communications Officer
  • Life Long Learning
